Due For My What?
Posted by: Steve Hemmingsen - 11/05/2009 12:00 AM

Coming home from a road trip and sorting through three weeks of mail is boring; or it was until I came across this little item from my doctor.

Far be it from me to criticize the medical profession (Ha!) but I think there is a case to be made that there are too many tests and too much paperwork.  It’s the best laugh straight out of the bill pile in a long time.

Why, of course, it was Sanford.  Do they call it the Sanford Smear, now?  I’m kind of looking forward to my visit, too, just out of curiosity.  I couldn’t resist calling the nurse who is, I’m sure, still laughing.  I also give them permission to forego my privacy rights on this one and pass it around the office.

Definitely LOL!

My mom had a double mastectomy. She got annual reminders for her mammogram. She finally called them and told them she had no mammos to gram.

Yup. Proof that private sector health care is infallible and inerrant.

We're even, I got a post card the other day to remind me that I'm due for my prostrate check. OOPS, I'm female.

A couple years back I received bills for my prostrate exam, among a list of other things a female wouldn't have done. My insurance company was confused and so was I. I'm female...

Anybody remember the villian from the first Naked Gun movie? His name was "Mr. Papsmear." He was played by Ricardo Montalbon. Great villian name, eh?

What's really sad is that it costs money to send out all that information. I actually got an advertisement from a clinic the other day telling me all the services that I can get and listings of the Doctors and what their specialty is. I suppose they did a "mass" mailing to the whole town. How much did that cost? Since when do Doctors need to drum up business? When you call for an appointment, they are so busy it's hard to get one in a timely manner.

I am fascinated by your readers talking about prostrate exams. Do you have to be prostrate to get a prostate exam?

Posted by: Dave - Nov 05, 2009 6:20 PM

Just a thought. Save this procedure for sweeps week and highlight it on Healthbeat. Ratings will be through the roof!!!

No, from experience, you are semi prone for the prostate check. I don't think prostrate...face up?...would work.

RIP Sid.
Sadly, can't help but wonder how many lives and families were destroyed by the excesses of liquor over the years...wrong kind of lubrication all too readily available at popular prices.
